Hey Everybody!
Just wanted to let everyone know that I will be running the continuing adventures of Slipstream at Pandemonium game store in Garden City, Michigan this Sunday, July 5, from 3PM to 8PM. Slipstream is a pulp science fiction setting using the Savage Worlds RPG rule set. A strange man in 1932 funded the construction of a rocketship called Achilles. The designer of the plans, Dr. Mathias Feeny, has gone missing to Mars with one of the earlier rockets he built. The Achilles has been dispatched on a mission to Mars and has accidentally entered the Slipstream. Slipstream is a space pulp setting reminiscent of the black and white Saturday morning serials of the 1930s. Think Flash Gordon. Put aside all foolish thoughts of such things as the immutable laws of physics, Faster-Than-Light drives, and the hard vacuum of space, and revel in the rocketship and ray gun reality that governs Slipstream. This isn’t your typical hard sci-fi game; you’ll be in the midst of two-fisted action packed battles! The Slipstream is a pocket universe reached only by passage through a black hole. Every black hole in our universe has a branch tunnel to Slipstream. Conventional 21st century science has it that matter sucked into a black hole is destroyed; not even light can escape the terrible force of destruction. Well, conventional science isn’t always right. All of you are invited to participate. New and old players are welcome to enter the fantastic realm of Slipstream. Please take a moment to let me know if you will be participating so I can make plan accordingly. The site didn't enter my 2nd "thread" right away; so, I thought they'd lost it. That's why you see 2 almost identical posts. Also, they only allow 2000 characters per post, so, this list will need to be divided: 1) The Man of Bronze Oct. 1964
2) The Thousand Headed Man Oct. 1964 3) Meteor Menace Oct. 1964 4) The Polar Treasure Apr. 1965 5) Brand of the Werewolf Apr. 1965 6) The Lost Oasis Apr. 1965 7) The Monsters June 1965 8) The Land of Terror Aug. 1965 9) The Mystic Mullah Nov. 1965 10) The Phantom City Mar. 1966 11) Fear Cay May 1966 12) Quest of Qui [THE QUEST OF QUI] July 1966 13) Land of Always-Night Sep. 1966 14) The Fantastic Island Dec. 1966 15) Murder Melody Jan. 1967 16) The Spook Legion Mar. 1967 17) The Red Skull May 1967 18) The Sargasso Ogre July 1967 19) Pirate of the Pacific Sep. 1967 20) The Secret in the Sky Nov. 1967 21) Cold Death Jan. 1968 22) The Czar of Fear Mar. 1968 23) Fortress of Solitude Apr. 1968 24) The Green Eagle May 1968 25) The Devil's Playground June 1968 26) Death in Silver July 1968 27) Mystery Under the Sea Aug. 1968 28) The Deadly Dwarf [REPEL] Sep. 1968 29) The Other World Oct. 1968 30) The Flaming Falcons Nov. 1968 |

In my previous entry, I posted a request for people to help me eliminate certain Doc Savage novels that didn't fit a particular profile. In my next entry I'll list all Bantam Doc books, in order. Meanwhile, by Bantam #, I'm going to list those still possible, (35 at # 82 or below, and 28 above; 63 total): #'s 5-6, 8, 10-11, 14-17, 19, 22-23, 26-28, 30, 35, 39, 42-45, 48, 50-51, 53, 54, 58, 60, 62, 66-67, 76-77, 80, 83, 90, 101-102, 115-116,131-134,143-147, 156-159, 164-172. Please let me know which of these I can eliminate, as not fitting the profile of my previous posting. Thank you.

I once read a Doc Savage story in which Doc was in a room filled with aquariums containing deadly reptiles. The glass broke, leaving Doc in a "wading pool" of reptiles. I'd like to remember the name of this story. You can help in 2 ways: 1. tell me the name of the story. 2. tell me 1 or more stories it's definitely not. It must be 1 of a certain 63 titles (of the total of 190 that were printed). If I can edit this "thread" I will. Otherwise, I'll do 2 other separate postings. The first will give all the possible stories by Bantam book #. The 2nd will list ALL bantam books, by #.

Looks good. Please note that this was originally posted by Robert Dorf, aka OddHat, on the HERO Games boards. The ideas have been bumping around pulp and retro games and fiction for a while now, and in particular can be found in Wold Newton inspired fiction (see Win Eckert's Wold Newton pages).

"Astounding Tales!" 2nd Edition has doubled in size to 100 pages since the 1st Edition two years ago, and is now the ultimate rules set for Pulp Era Gaming. More complete and wide ranging than ever, with new features and resources, AT2 retains the same simple, direct game mechanics. New features include references to airplanes and airships, Rocketmen, Nazi Science, new weapons and special Skills (including greatly expanded options for female characters), Snipers, alternate character generation systems, and more. Extensive background on the World of Pulp Fiction, new Game Title and Scene Generators, and two ready-to-play Scenarios round out the package. Besides the new rules and materials, the original rules have been generally improved and clarified. |
